Lotte Glob Artist & Sculptor

Twice in the past week, people have mentioned the name Lotte Glob to me. The first time I saw a postcard of a vase that looked uncannily like a goose from a distance, perched high on Suilvan, a spectacular mountain in Sutherland. The second time was yesterday when a friend mentioned visiting her studio at the Balnakeil Craft Village just outside Durness.
Lotte Glob does some fantastic sculptures for gardens and homes, but to me the most fascinating work is the ultimate rock garden. This is a project where a sculpture is taken away into the hills and photographed in spectacular scenery before finally being left to it's fate high on a mountainside. Lotte uses materials, rocks and clay, found in the mountains, sculpts them into their new form and leaves them up there, so no issues with littering hillsides should arise. I think her studio is open April-October, but the website is there year round for you to explore the work.
